Antibiotic Treatments (Freshwater vs. Saltwater)
🔹 When to Use Antibiotics?
  • 🩸 Dropsy – Pinecone scales, bloating.
  • 🩸 Septicemia – Internal bacterial infection; red streaks in the body.
  • 🩸 Swim Bladder Infections – Bacterial causes (not physical injury).
🔹 Freshwater Treatment
  • Kanaplex (Kanamycin) – Best for internal bacterial infections.
  • Metroplex (Metronidazole + Kanamycin) – Covers bacterial + protozoan mixes.
  • Nitrofurazone – Broad-spectrum; effective against resistant infections.
🔹 Saltwater Treatment
  • Neomycin – Effective against Vibrio & Mycobacterium.
  • Doxycycline / Minocycline – Safe for marine fish; fights resistant bacteria.
  • Erythromycin – Mild but safe for reef tanks (at proper doses).
⚠️ Saltwater Note
Some antibiotics (such as Nitrofurazone) can harm corals and invertebrates. Use in a quarantine tank whenever possible.
