📌 How to recognize external parasites on fish
🔹 Common Symptoms of External Parasites
  • 🏊 Scratching / Flashing – Rubbing against objects (Ich, Flukes).
  • 💨 Rapid Gilling & Labored Breathing – Often Gill Flukes or Velvet.
  • 🎭 White Spots on Skin & Fins – Classic Ich.
  • 🎭 Dusty Gold SheenFreshwater Velvet (Piscinoodinium).
  • 🎭 Gray or Yellow FilmMarine Velvet (Amyloodinium).
  • 🔴 Visible Worms or Lice – Anchor Worms or Fish Lice.
🦠 Ich (White Spot Disease)
Ichthyophthirius multifiliis
  • 📍 Signs: Small white cysts on skin, fins, and gills.
  • 🔍 Identification: Looks like salt grains.
  • 🏥 Treatment: Heat + salt, copper sulfate, malachite green.
🦠 Velvet Disease (Gold-Dust)
Piscinoodinium (FW) / Amyloodinium (SW)
  • 📍 Signs: Fine gold or brown dust on skin.
  • 🔍 Identification: Shimmery velvet-like sheen.
  • 🏥 Treatment: Copper meds, formalin, freshwater dips (marine).
🪱 Skin & Gill Flukes
Gyrodactylus / Dactylogyrus
